For which pupils?
For pupils aged between 4 to 13 years. There are around 200 pupils in our school and most of them have been in the Netherlands for a short period of time. They originate from all parts of the world: Poland, Russia, Afghanistan, China, Thailand, Iraq, Brazil, Turkey, Somalia, Morocco, Tjech republic, Germany, Syria and Romania.
Children who have the Dutch nationality but lack the understanding of the Dutch language are also welcome in our school, but under certain conditions. About 35% of our pupils live at refugee centres in Almelo or Azelo. The remainder live in houses in the councils of Almelo, Wierden, Rijssen, Nijverdal, Holten, Vriezeveen, Albergen, Vroomshoop, Den Ham, Borne or Tubbergen. Children from the council Goor and Dinkelland are also welcome at our school.
Our goal: Het Palet is a primary school where our main focus is for students to learn the Dutch language.
To learn to communicate in Dutch is key in our teaching program. To understand the Dutch language is important in all school subjects. We are able to achieve this by offering lessons to improve studentís skills in areas such as listening, speaking, vocabulary, reading comprehension and spelling on a daily basis. We will also teach an hour of mathematics each day and with that practice the Dutch-worded math questions.
Het Palet tailors to individual needs, meaning that each child will receive language, reading and math tuition at his or her level.
Information about application and registration:
The information on the English version of this site is limited. However we are always available to make an appointment for an informative conversation. If you would like to make an appointment for an introduction and/or registration, you can call us daily. We will try to arrange for a meeting that same week including a tour around the school building.
It is possible to start taking lessons at our school every Wednesday.
Parents are responsible for the transportation of their child to school. All children from Almelo have to walk or cycle to school by themselves. The younger pupils (4 till 8 yeard old) will only receive transport if they live too far away from school (more than 2,5 km away from school) and are not able to be brought to school.
You can find more information about this in our school guide.
For more information you can contact Head of school mrs. Inge Bulters, telephone: 0546-473295.
